JOHN DEAN

Paulding County School Board Representative

“It has been an honor to serve on the Paulding County School Board. We have achieved much but more needs to be done. I am asking for your support to ensure our schools continue to provide the best education possible for our children.” -Paulding County School Board Representative John Dean District 5.

John Dean's Achievements

John believes in the Paulding School District’s mission to engage, inspire, and prepare students for success today and tomorrow. To better achieve these objectives, John will strengthen partnerships between schools and parents. He recognizes that lasting success for the students can only be achieved when the family unit and the classroom are working toward a common goal. John will work to establish a working relationship between all stakeholders including county administration, principals, parents, students, teachers, and the community. Parents should never be left out of this discussion.

Sending your children home safe every day is the school’s primary goal. Nothing else matters if your kids don’t come home at the end of the day. John knows this and ensuring a safe learning environment is why John established a security department and implemented a full security assessment. John will use this assessment in conjunction with his military experience to implement procedures that keep Paulding County students safe from all potential threats. John’s safety protocols will protect our student’s mental and physical well-being.

Preparing children for the future requires allowing room for them to make mistakes and to learn from those mistakes. To give every child the best chance for success, John developed the Second Chance program which offers students who work hard the opportunity to overcome mistakes and have infractions removed from their records. The Second Chance program gives students who meet certain stipulations a fresh start at new opportunities. John will continue to expand this program in the next four years to help even more Paulding County students get back on the path to success.

John recognizes that the school tax is a significant portion of your property tax bill and has worked to reduce that tax burden without compromising the quality of the education provided to our students. John expanded the property tax exemption for seniors to include everyone over 68 years old. He will continue working to keep Paulding County millage rates as low as possible for everyone. John understands that inflation is challenging everyone’s budget and that rising prices will stretch the school budgets as well. John is determined to exercise fiscal responsibility and find ways to make the budget stretch further so that Paulding County can continue to provide the highest quality education without increasing the budget at a time when families cannot afford to pay more.

Paulding County is growing fast and transitioning from a rural to a metropolitan county. Paulding County Schools must be strategic in preparing to meet the needs of this growing population. In anticipation of this growth, John has served on the development team for the district’s 5-year plan. During his next term, John will implement this plan to ensure that upcoming projects are properly planned and monitored. He will conduct a risk analysis to keep the school system out of debt. With planning and accountability, John will ensure that our schools are financially able to meet the needs of a growing population.

"Education is the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to another."

– G. K. Chesterton

My focus is on growth, security, safety and accommodating students and teachers with the resources they need to succeed. Because of our expansive growth, Paulding County schools has transformed from a bedroom school community to a large city district.  Our growth means we must run our school district like a well run business instead of a small town school district. I served on the development team for the District’s 5 Year Strategic Plan.

Great Schools Make Great Communities

About John

John Dean is the current School Board Representative for Paulding County, District 5.  John and his wife Sandra have been residents of Dallas for over 30 years.  During this time, they raised 3 children who have given them 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

John originally decided to run for the school board for many reasons. The first reason is his family served in public education for 4 generations.  His Daughter is currently a teacher in the Paulding School System, he also had 2 aunts that were teachers, and currently 3 granddaughters that are certified teachers. His mother taught in a one-room schoolhouse in South Dakota on the Sioux Indian reservation during the depression.

He also has had five grandchildren that are proud graduates of the Paulding County Schools.

School safety is another reason John ran for the school board. He has 30 years of honorable service with the US Marine Corps where he retired as the 4th Marine Division, Sergeant Major, and is a Combat Veteran.  With this background, John believes he has brought the right ideas to the school board to tackle this very important problem.
